Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Everything you need to prepare and submit your manuscript to JAVS.

JAVS is an open-access, peer-reviewed international journal. After review (approximately 4–6 weeks), accepted papers are published in the next issue. Please follow the guidelines below carefully — manuscripts that do not conform may be returned for revision before review.

1. Copyright

Submission implies that the work has not been published elsewhere (except as an abstract, lecture, or thesis) and is not under consideration by another journal. JAVS publications are freely available to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt — provided the original work and source are appropriately cited.

2. Plagiarism Policy

A maximum of 15% similarity is admissible. A Turnitin (or equivalent) similarity report should accompany the submission.

3. Prior Publication

The following are considered prior publication:

  • Articles published in any outlet, including online-only and non-peer-reviewed publications.
  • Articles, book chapters, and long abstracts containing original data in figures and tables (e.g., proceedings publications and posters disseminated beyond meeting attendees).
  • Widely circulated, copyrighted, or archival reports.

Doctoral dissertations made available through ProQuest or institutional repositories are not considered prior publication. Once submitted, the manuscript must not be posted to a preprint server unless it is rejected or withdrawn.

4. Manuscript Structure

5. Formatting Essentials

  • Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or RTF; double-spaced; Times New Roman 10pt; consecutive line and page numbering.
  • Arabic numerals throughout. SI units. Temperatures in °C.

  • Tables and figures: separate sections at the end of the manuscript.
  • English language certificate (native speaker / qualified professional review) recommended.

6. Figures & Tables

Tables — numbered with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Table 2…), formatted with your word processor’s Table function. No colour or shading. No commas in numbers. Each table on a separate page.

Figures — submitted as separate files (not embedded). Accepted: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, JPEG. Max 10 MB per figure.

Resolution targets: 600 px wide (standard web), 1200 px (high-res). Print: 85 mm (half-page), 170 mm (full-page), max height 225 mm, ≈300 dpi at final size. All fonts embedded; lines >0.25 pt.

7. Suggesting Reviewers

Authors are asked to suggest at least three suitable reviewers (name, email, affiliation, phone) in the “Comments for the Editor” field during submission. The editor is not bound by these nominations.

8. Fast-Track Publication

Authors seeking expedited review may contact the Editorial Office. Accepted manuscripts are published ahead of print with a DOI. Fast-track decisions depend solely on scientific merit; manuscripts requiring significant revision are not accepted on the fast-track route. A non-refundable fee applies.

9. Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The submission has not been previously published and is not before another journal.
  • The file is OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF.
  • URLs are provided for references where available.
  • Text is single-spaced, 12-point; italics used (not underlining) except for URLs; figures, tables, and illustrations placed at appropriate points.
  • The text follows the stylistic and bibliographic requirements of these Author Guidelines.
